Buyer Rice (anonym) left a complaint in our blog comment, claiming that she bought a phone from seller Mike (anonym). But Mike sent her a wrong phone. Rice returned the phone but Mike refused to send her money back. This had happened more than 4 months before Rice left this message. Rice claimed this was a DHgate scam, thinking that she was swindled by the website.

Fact:
Based on DHgate policy, if the buyer does not click the “complete the order” button or file a dispute against a certain order before the deadline after he/she receives the items, the order will be automatically completed and DHgate has to release the payment to the seller. Rice did not open a dispute against this order and as a result, the fund was released to the seller.

Such cases may happen occasionally due to buyers’ unawareness of DHgate’s Dispute Procedure. To protect buyers’ interest in case of such a problem, we suggest that the buyer open a dispute ASAP when he/she is dissatisfied with the order. After a dispute is opened, the buyer is encouraged to reach an agreement in the form of solution proposal, the button for which can be found on the Dispute section. Please note that DHgate will not intervene into the case during this phase. If the two sides fail to reach an agreement, the buyer can choose to submit (escalate) the dispute to DHgate for arbitration. Buyers can follow the instructions and notices given by the website to complete the process. Hence the DHgate scam Rice claimed can actually be avoided if she had filed a dispute in time.

Lesson:
If you suspect that you have encountered a scam after you receive your order, you are encouraged to open a dispute right away by logging into “My DHgate”. And after you open a dispute, you should contact and communicate with the seller ASAP to work out a solution. If you fail to reach an agreement with the seller by the deadline, submit the dispute to DHgate in time, and DHgate will hold the money until the dispute is resolved.

“Fashion is probably the only industry in the world where its fledgling talents are expected to be as creatively adept at running a business as they are at design,” says Anna Wintour. “Many, clearly, are not, and it’s through the support of the fund that these promising designers will be able to build a future for themselves—and for American fashion.”

Making the cut this year are a few familiar names – Prabal Gurang, Pamela Love of Pamela Love Jewellery, Joseph Altuzarra of Altuzarra and Eddie Borgo – alongside others we don’t recognise so much: Christian Cota, Robert Geller, Moss Lipow, Gregory Parkinson, Billy Reid and Oliver Helden and Paul Marlow of Loden Dager.

The winner won’t be unveiled until autumn, and though whoever wins will be in good company – previous winners include Proenza Schouler, Alexander Wang and, most recently, Sophie Theallet – the finalists will have a small mountain to climb before they get there.

According to WWD, the judging committee will be paying a visit to each of the designers’ studios, scrutinising their latest collections and setting them a design project before deciding a winner on November 15th.

In the meantime, we’ll be getting acquainted with all 10 – after all, the Fashion Fund finalists are usually a pretty good indication of the ones to watch.
